The last month has been a busy one for the LoneWolf, although that hasn’t resulted in much content on the blogs that I run. It has been mostly behind the scenes work.
Domain Moving
The biggest job that I’ve done is a move of all my domains from one hosting service to another. There were two main reasons for this move.
- The new host is cheaper by about 50% with more resources
- The new hosting service is more scalable (it is built on a grid of servers, somewhat like a cloud)
I don’t have anything bad to say about the old service as they provided me with reliable service for many years. They would have given me a better rate and migrated me to a newer server if I had asked. However, a newer server would still not have the scalability that I see with the new service.
All in all, I had nine domains hosted on the old service that had to be moved. Three of them included subdomains with WordPress blogs.
I’ll document the general move in a future post as well as a specific post relating to the WordPress issues that I ran into during the process.
Site Overhaul
On top of the migration, I actually converted one of the static sites into a WordPress site without changing the look and feel (except for the news section which is revamped somewhat). It was like Extreme Website Makeover where the inside was gutted and redone without breaking any windows on the outside. Look for some posts and an e-book that I am writing about that adventure to be out soon.
New Sites
There are also several new sites that have been started on the new hosting service. lonewolfmuskoka.ca is currently an empty domain that will become a central site for the LoneWolf network. Then there is Say Hi to Chainsaw which is a video site. It will have links to my YouTube creations as well as some of the more amazing things that I find on YouTube. The latest addition to the LoneWolf network is Faith Be the Journey. This will be an exploration of faith in general and my Christian beliefs in particular.
Tweaking
I also found some tweaking to do on the existing sites as I learned more about the inner workings of themes, so tweaking of Howls is ongoing and there are plans for tweaks of the other sites as well.
Email and AdWords
I still have to document the results of my AdWords experiment and the stuff I’m doing with AWeber email service. The results are in but I still have to write it up.
HubPages
Learning about HubPages is my first post at an article site. I like the way HubPages is set up and I plan to do a lot of work there in the future. If you are interested in writing articles to help your own site then this is an excellent way to do it. It is also great for writing stuff that doesn’t really fit in with your blogs.
Conclusion
Well, that is a bit of what is going on in the LoneWolf world (at least the online part). There is still a lot of stuff to do, but I should be posting more on all the blogs in the next month. Stay tuned!
